McSorley's Old Ale House
About McSorley's Old Ale House
McSorley's has been open on East 7th Street since 1854, making it one of the longest continuously operating ale houses in New York, and the walls have not been cleared of memorabilia since 1910. The bar serves exactly two beers: light and dark, both house ales, both cheap. Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses Grant, and Harry Houdini all reportedly drank here, and Houdini's handcuffs are still clipped to the bar rail.
