About The Whaling Bar
La Jolla's most famous cocktail lounge — back. Opened in 1949 inside the Pink Lady (La Valencia Hotel), it became a hangout for Dr. Seuss, Gregory Peck and Robin Williams before closing in 2013. Reopened in 2024 by SDCM Restaurant Group (Kettner Exchange, Grass Skirt, The Waverly) with the original 1949 Wing Howard mural "The Whale's Last Stand" restored to the wall. Modern menu under chef Brian Redzikowski, classic cocktails alongside new signatures (The Whaler, Green Dragon, Pink Royale), a welcoming patio, three private event spaces including the Wing Howard Lounge.
